This is getting wilder and wilder. In the near future, supposedly pre-Singularity, we are apparently going to be able to download dead people’s personalities!
TrueActivist.com found out that there is a patent that secures a new invention, which apparently has a great deal to do with the cloud, storing robots’ personalities,
The patent makes, admittedly, such claims that may get you shaking your head in disbelief, make your jaw drop in wonder, or have you raise your eyebrows in skepticism: a user would be able to download the robots’ personalities, very much with how one downloads an app online. This could range from the personality of the users themselves to a celebrity’s, and even of a deceased loved one!
The personalities could even be swappable among robots over a cloud system, depending on the user’s preferences. [TrueActivist.com, Feb. 9, 2016, It Is Now Possible To Download Dead People’s Personalities To A Robot.
The patent says, amongst other things, “A robot may access a user device to determine or identify information about a user, and the robot may be configured to tailor a personality for interaction with the user based on identified information.”
If, for example, a robot clones your personality, it will be stored in a cloud, just as many people today store their computer files in an online cloud. Your own personality, if copied, will be stored in the cloud long after your demise and can be pasted into a robot by relatives and friends, who have a hard time letting you go. This way, you will always be with them.
Is this what we want; a synthetic version of ourselves, living on “forever?” Well, I guess it’s not going to be an issue after the Singularity, when Posthumans will have eternal life.
